Description

Run Windows Live Messenger without installing, modifying the system, or unpacking anything,
even as a guest user, or a computer with restricted access,
with all functions enabled such as winks, animated backgrounds, packs, handwriting, etc.

Requirements

- Windows XP/Server 2003/Vista, updates and service packs not required

Notes:
- does not include connection troubleshooter due to size reasons, if there's really
a demand for it, it can be added later

Hey Nova,

Thanks for MSN Lite. Got it working without any hitches so far .

I get your point about the working files it creates. Guys - this does NOT install anything on the system you run it on; although it DOES generate application related files which the guys at Microsoft are responsible for .

I do hope you'll update the WLM Lite to the latest Live Messenger when you get the chance!

Hi, i just downloaded it, and it ise version 8.0, can somebody make it to 8.1. Or can somebody teach how to edit that file. I am thinking that could be great with Vista skin

WLM Lite does not install any program files, what you're referring to is WLM's "cache" for the current user, this is required in order for WLM to function, they are created dynamically, and impossible to remove without reprogramming messenger, which is far beyond the scope of what I can do with thinstall, no system or protected areas are touched, just the current user's folder, and only cache files, furthermore, WLM Lite is open to the same problems as the original WLM, meaning if you can't login, or you have contact loading problems, or anything else, they will apply to WLM Lite as well, meaning if WLM Lite isn't loading your contact list, neither will WLM original, if you can't connect with WLM Lite, you can't connect with WLM original either, hopefully this clears this up for you all

[local drive]:Documents and Settings[username]Contacts

hmmmm...so much for "lite".

this does create folders on the system, not just in the registry. i have found two folders it creates in:

[local disk]:Documents and Settings[username]Local SettingsApplication DataMicrosoft

a folder called "messenger" and another one called "Windows Live Contacts" are created.

also, there is a messenger folder created in:

[local disk]:Documents and Settings[username]Application DataMicrosoft

it is called "MSN Messenger"

So, in actuall fact, this "Lite" version does install lots and lots of crap throughout your machine, so yeah.


note: the folders "Local Settings" and "Application Data" are hidden, you can check the box in folder settings to show these folders.

by WLMlite you mean a stand-alone version of WLM, right?! so this means it can run on a usb-stick.

it uses all the same things as msn 8, but it comes in one file.

does it use another protocoll/service or something similiar too? cause for example in my school it is the messenger service that is blocked :S
